Giovanni is the son of merchant from Sicily. The boy grew up in the port city, running around and swimming, but his nocturnal ways meant everyone thought he was lazy. He was given the task of keeping watch late at night as the only thing he could do well, so his awareness and concentration have developed. He has also learnt a little about talking to merchants and haggling. Over the last year, his Gift has started manifesting so his family have reluctantly let him go to serve as an apprentice scribe over on the mainland. They don’t realize this “apprenticeship” is actually apprenticeship to The Order of Hermes, and will ask people working for their mercantile business to check the boy is learning his letters, and have asked him to write to them when he has learnt how.
In 1118 Giovanni take part in the ritual of Twelve Years and adopts the shape of his heartbeast for the first time. A brown owl with mesmerizing eyes.

Design points – the know-it-all child personality flaw will be replaced by another major personality flaw when he reaches age 14 or 21, to be replaced by one suitable to his future heartbeast. His affinity with parma magica is so he has an ability boost his parens doesn’t need to teach him – I’m happy to swap for another arcane ability if you would prefer.
